How To Make A Chrysanthemum Mirror w/ Plastic SPOONS!

by Tuesday, October 25, 2016

Hey, Homies!!!

So it has been a crazy stressful DIY bathroom remodel week for me but that is a whole other story that I will share on Renovation Real Talk on my YouTube channel.   But any who,  as promised I am sharing all the details to the DIYs I created for my Homie’s room.   My homie, Destoni, absolutely loved the chrysanthemum inspired mirror and guess what it is made of plastic spoons! I know right, mind blown! So here are the step to create your very own chrysanthemum inspired mirror.

If you missed my past diys like the modern chandelier and geometric pattern table check them out now.

First, get your supplies. You will need:

Plastic spoons (min. 12 packs of spoons but it depends on your size mirror.  I had to make runs to Dollar Tree several #bummer)

Mirror (purchased 16 in mirror from the craft store)

Hot Glue Gun

Hot Glue Sticks

Spray Paint

Rope (optional)

 E600 adhesive (not pictured)

Next, place your mirror in the middle and trace the shape onto the cardboard. Then use a ruler to measure 6 inches away from the inner circle and trace a larger circle all the way around.img_2732

Now when you cut out the inner circle remember to cut a half inch (or more) inside the middle circle so you will have a place to glue the mirror.img_2733

Next, measure 2 inches around the circumference of the template.  Making these marks will help keep your spoons evenly spaced the first couple of rows.  After that, you can freestyle the placement.

After you make your marks cut the handles off of the spoons.  I would suggest getting the white spoons instead of the clear spoons. The clear spoons are harder the to cut with regular scissors. Now that you have your spoons cut start hot gluing them to your template.  This can be repetitive and boring. Do what I did and turn on Missy Elliot Pandora station. You have no choice but to keep going with Fatman Scoop yelling, ”  LET’S GO! LET’S GO! LET’S GO!”

Once all your spoons are glued down it is time to spray paint it. Make sure you get the paint in the hard to notice spots too.

Use the E600 to glue your mirror to the underside of the cardboard and hot glue the rope to the front border.

Now enjoy your hard work!
