Hey, Homies and Happy New Years!!!
Overall I had a fantastic 2016. We were blessed with everything we prayed for within that year. We purchased our first home; Royal celebrated her first birthday, we got major lead way on our home renovation projects, I was able to leave my job and blog full time, OH, and update!, Sirr proposed to me at our annual Christmas party, and of course I said YES! Going into the new year it seemed like there was nothing I wanted or needed to work on until I looked around my home and saw the clutter and junk sprawled about with no place to call home. I realized that my 2016 wasn’t that organized which would explain why I was stressed every time I walked in the front door. That is not what home is about so my 2017 goal is to prioritize, maximize, and organize my home so I can be clear of mind, stress-free and most importantly find things when I need them.
So I made a list of 6 home updates or makeovers that I plan to execute that will improve the look of our home and help the functionality of our everyday activities:
Our kitchen pantry has been the bane of my existence since we moved into our house. At first, it did not bother me because I figured sooner than later, we would demo the wall the pantry is in to open up the kitchen but when sooner turned into to not this year the pantry became an overwhelming mess. My over goal is to organize every enclosed flat surface in the house. By God as my witness! Below is my inspiration picture.
Office / Craft Room/ Guest Room
Our guest room has pretty much been a guest room with a blow-up bed from the beginning. We always had friends or family coming to stay with us since 2016 was our first year in a new house but the majority of the time it was functionless. After bombing the living room too many times to count with my various DIY projects, I want to make this room have multiple purposes. It will mainly serve as my office and craft room so I can shoot my Youtube videos and craft my smaller projects. Kimberly at Swoon Worthy’s office inspired me to step my game up.
I have been putting off giving our main hallway a facelift for awhile, but this will be my year to do it. Some wainscoting, updated lighting and a fresh coat of paint with my Homeright Finish Max Paint Sprayer should do the trick. Inspiration pic below!
Library Nook and Mantle
So far I have white washed the brick wall (tutorial coming soon), and that was all she wrote. My pretty decor, pictures, and books remain in boxes in the garage waiting for a spot on a shelf. I plan to build a desk, library-style shelves and mantle for the fireplace. I am in love with this library nook inspiration and can’t wait to get it done.
We have painted the basement walls and covered the ceiling with reclaimed pallet wood. I would like the basement to be our main hang out space again, so we will put down the new flooring we purchased a few months back and decorate. Inspiration pic below!
Now the kitchen may or may not get a complete gut and remodel this year, but I would like to give it some updates. Possibly starting with patching the holes in the walls we overzealously created when we thought we were tearing it down right away, throwing up a fresh coat of paint, putting up some new window treatments and purchasing new appliances!! Mama needs a dishwasher! My dream kitchen would be similar to the kitchen at House Tweaking.
So there you have it! My home goals for 2017. Can’t wait to take to you on this crazy creating adventure! TTYL
