It is bittersweet, but my little girl is now a one year toddler. Can you believe a TODDLER! Ugh, I can’t, but I have no choice to accept that she will continue to grow. So in celebration of one year of life and our successful track record of keeping her alive (there were a few bumps and bruises along the way lol) we threw Royal the perfect first birthday! She won’t remember it a few years from now, but I will cherish that day forever.
Since Royal is a summer baby, I thought it would be fitting to have a summertime theme. I had to decide between, “A Splash-tastic First Birthday” – American BBQ style OR “Flamingo+ Pineapple Tropical Realness” – Hawaiian theme. I was undecided until I was perusing Dollar Tree and found the cutest tissue paper flamingo and pineapple straws. I was sold on the tropical theme. Plus; Pinterest swayed my decision a little.
So, of course, your homegirl DIYed the heck out of this party with the help of some very budget friendly items and recycled items. First, I created a backdrop for the dessert table by nailing a horizontal plastic window covering that came with the house. When I turned it vertically, it looked like a bamboo screen to me. What do you think? I then took my DIYed Sunburst mirror and placed it in the center of the covering.
I then purchased 12 balloons and lined them up along the dessert table with the help of some tape, cut the strings and tied 12 pictures of Royal from birth to now. It was a big hit! NOTE: Pick up your balloons last or you risk the chance deflating them in a hot car while running other errands. (Don’t be me lol)
I love how the dessert table came together. To be very budget friendly I purchased the majority of the tableware from Dollar Tree. Real pineapples donned pink faux flowers for an extra tropical touch. Candy and vases for the candy bar were purchased at Dollar Tree as well.
Ice cream sundae bar was a huge hit as well! (vanilla ice cream not picture)
But nothing was more beautiful than the party cake and smash cake created by Miss Mick owner of Twstd Treats IG: @miss_mick I mean chile when I opened the boxes I screamed! They were gorgeous! Hit her up for all your cake needs. Tell her the Handy Homegirl sent you.
I created a balloon chandelier using 6 dark green balloons, 6 light green balloons, 2 yellow tissue paper honeycombs, 2 pick pom poms and few faux ferns to add texture and dimension and hung it above the food table.
I decorated the back yard with some birthday and luau decor from Party City.
The cakes!! Hands down.
This party was truly a DIY event. Setup took 3 days and I am very grateful for the family and friends that helped with all the food set up and music If you need help decorating your next event hit me up at firstname.lastname@example.org.
